Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information Saguaro Signal collects, how we use it, and the choices available to you. Last updated August 7, 2026. By using the site, you acknowledge this policy.

Who we are

Saguaro Signal is an Arizona politics publication operated at saguarosignal.com. Questions about this policy can be sent to contact@saguarosignal.com.

Information we collect

  • Newsletter email and delivery preference. If you subscribe, we store the email address you submit and the cadence you choose (daily or weekly) so we can send the newsletter and manage your subscription status.
  • Reader account information. If you create a free account, we store your email, a hashed password (not the password itself), and optional profile details you choose to provide—such as a display name, avatar image, time zone, and stories you save to read later.
  • Messages you send us. Tips, corrections, and other emails you send to our published addresses include whatever you choose to provide. Do not send information you are not authorized to share. We are not responsible for personal information about third parties that you voluntarily include in a message.
  • Bot-protection signals. Newsletter and related forms may use Cloudflare Turnstile, which helps us tell people from automated spam. Cloudflare may process a short-lived verification token and related technical data under its own privacy terms.
  • Basic technical data. Like most websites, our hosting provider may log standard request information such as IP address, browser type, pages requested, referrer, and timestamps. We use this for security, reliability, abuse prevention, and troubleshooting.

We do not knowingly require more personal information than needed to operate the newsletter, reader accounts, and respond to messages you initiate.

How we use information

  • To deliver and operate the newsletter and related confirmation or account emails.
  • To provide signed-in account features (saved stories, preferences, profile).
  • To respond to tips, corrections, and other inquiries.
  • To keep the site secure, prevent abuse and spam, and diagnose problems.
  • To understand aggregate traffic patterns when such logs are available from our host.
  • To research, draft, and edit original coverage, which may involve AI tools processing publicly available source material—not your private account contents—at our editorial discretion.
  • To comply with law, enforce our terms, or protect rights, safety, and integrity of the site and others.

We do not sell personal information. We do not use newsletter emails for third-party advertising lists.

Sharing

We may share information with service providers who help us host the site, store data, send email (currently Resend), provide bot protection (currently Cloudflare Turnstile), or otherwise secure and operate systems, solely as needed to perform those services. We may also disclose information if we believe in good faith that disclosure is required by law, legal process, or government request, or is necessary to protect rights, safety, or security. If the publication is transferred or reorganized, information may transfer as part of that transaction, subject to this policy or a successor notice.

Cookies and tracking

We record anonymous first-party page views (path, story type, and optionally the referring site) so editors can see which coverage is getting read. These counts are stored on our servers. We do not use that tracker to build a profile of you, set an advertising cookie, or assign a persistent visitor ID. The site may also use cookies or similar storage that are necessary for basic site function (for example, staying signed in to a free account or remembering sound preference), or that our hosting platform sets for security and performance. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling cookies may affect site function.

Images on the site

Article and site images are, to the best of our ability, Creative Commons or similarly licensed works, public-domain works, or AI-generated illustrations, often with on-page credit. Displaying an image does not mean we collect biometric or identity data from visitors about people depicted in those images. Image sourcing and licensing questions are addressed in our Terms of Use.

Outside links and syndicated headlines

Our homepage and coverage may include headlines, excerpts, and links from outside publishers. Following those links takes you to another site with its own privacy practices. Saguaro Signal does not control and is not responsible for the privacy policies, content, or practices of those publishers or any other third-party site.

Security

We take reasonable administrative and technical measures to protect information we hold, including hashing account passwords. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security and are not liable for unauthorized access, interception, loss, or alteration of information beyond our reasonable control, to the fullest extent permitted by law.

Security incidents

If we become aware of a security incident involving personal information we hold, we will investigate and provide any notices required by applicable law, including Arizona's data-breach notification statute (A.R.S. §§ 18-551 and 18-552) when it applies—for example, if account login credentials are compromised in a way that triggers notice. Questions about a suspected incident: contact@saguarosignal.com.

Retention

Newsletter emails are kept while the subscription is active and for a reasonable period after unsubscribe or inactivity so we can honor suppression requests and prevent accidental re-adds. Reader account data is kept while the account is active and for a reasonable period after deletion or inactivity as needed for security and records. Tip and correction emails are retained as needed for editorial, legal, and operational records. Server logs are retained according to our hosting provider's ordinary practices. We may retain information longer when required by law or needed to resolve disputes or enforce agreements.

Your choices

  • Unsubscribe from the newsletter using the link in any newsletter email, on our unsubscribe page, or by contacting us.
  • Update or delete your reader account through account settings when signed in, or by emailing us.
  • Request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information we hold about you by emailing contact@saguarosignal.com.

We may need to verify the request. We may decline or limit a request when permitted by law, including when information is needed for legal, security, editorial-record, or operational reasons, or when the request is unfounded or excessive.

Children

Saguaro Signal is a general-audience news site. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have done so, contact us and we will delete it promptly where required.

International visitors

The site is operated from the United States and intended primarily for a U.S. audience. If you access it from elsewhere, you understand that information may be processed in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those in your country.

No warranty; limitation

This policy describes our practices in good faith. To the fullest extent permitted by law, the site and our handling of information are provided without warranties beyond those we are legally required to provide, and our liability related to privacy or data incidents is limited as set out in our Terms of Use.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top of this page will change when we do. Continued use of the site after an update means you accept the revised policy. If changes are material, we may also provide additional notice when practical.
